Prom Night // Mavin

Mason was staring at the ground when it happened. He should’ve seen it coming, really. He hadn’t been completely with it ever since that gossip had gone out. Everyone knew. Everyone knew he wasn’t good enough. He would never be good enough. It physically ached to think about. And then Gavin had been so sweet. Had kissed him, and told him he was amazing. He didn’t think he was, but he liked that Gavin did. And that made him feel like an awful boyfriend. Because that was what he was now; a boyfriend. A boyfriend he was too afraid to take Gavin to prom. Too afraid of the people that would no doubt be talking about him. He’d never felt quite so ashamed before.

“Go.” He heard his brothers soft voice from the corner of the room.
Mason cleared his throat, running a hand through his hair, “You should be in bed.”

“Go to prom. Go be with him. Please.”

Mason turned to look at Ben, the expression on his face melting his heart. He didn’t want to see Ben ever looking that hurt, “I can’t.”

“It doesn’t matter what they think, Mace. Please.”

“Why?”

“Because I don’t like seeing you like this. Gavin makes you happy, so go. Go be with him, and go be happy.” Ben sighed softly, “I’ll go to bed, I promise. And you can bring him back here later, but if you wake me up, we have to have fish and chips tomorrow.”

“I don’t have a suit.” Mason tried, biting his lip because they both knew that was a complete lie.

“Wear one of the ones you used to wear back home. Please.”

Mason sighed softly, watching Ben for a moment, then groaning in frustration, “Alright! Fine. Straight to bed.” He smiled to himself as he watched Ben rush to his room, going to his closet, and finding a decent suit jacket to wear. His white shirt would do for underneath, and his black pants seemed to go okay with it. His hair was a complete mess, but he didn’t really care. Ben was right. He needed to be there. With Gavin.

It didn’t take Mason all that long to get there. He rolled his eyes as they handed him a mask at the door, rushing into the room. There were so many people, and that fear crept back to him as he looked around, but it slowly faded when he eventually spotted the ginger boy. Making his way over to him, he smiled shyly, holding out a hand, “May I have this dance?”

sugarandjillybeans:

This Prom thing isn’t like mandatory to go to or anything is it?

You’re taking your brother.

gavinquentinwest:

I’m sorry… If there’s anything I can do - even if it’s just taking your mind off things - you know I’m here, right?

I know.

I think I’m just going to hide out for a while..

“Mason’s only using Gavin.”

What reason do I have to use him?
